Pastor's Note 01.10.2020

God the Lord says—the one who created the heavens, the one who stretched them out, the one who spread out the earth and its offspring, the one who gave breath to its people and life to those who walk on it— I, the Lord, have called you for a good reason. I will grasp your hand and guard you, and give you as a covenant to the people, as a light to the nations. (Isaiah 42:5-6)

Good Day Family,

God has called us for a good reason. We have a God-ordained purpose for our lives, our families, our congregation, and our community. Through our baptism, we have signaled our commitment to belonging to the Kin-dom of God and the Body of Christ in the World. This Sunday, we will remember Jesus’ baptism and our own through a baptism renewal during worship. (If you have not been baptized, don’t worry, you’re still included.) Following service, at 11:30 am, we will host “Exploring Membership,” a class and conversation for those interested in or curious about joining First Congregational UCC. This is open to anyone and will last approximately one hour.

This month, we will begin a Bible Study on “Setting the Table: Worship, Mission, and Evangelism.” We will look at how the early church revolved their life together around a meal and how that tradition is being renewed in Christian communities today. We will meet on Tuesdays at 6:30 pm, beginning on Tuesday, January 21. I hope you’ll join us.

Thank you to all who joined in our first prayer call for peace. We will continue Wednesdays at 12:30 pm. I am exploring how we might share the prayer on our website for those who are unable to join us in real time. Information regarding the call can be found below.

We, my kindred in Christ, continue to answer God’s call…to be a light…with the help of God.

Seeking Wisdom,

Be well,

Pastor Cheryl
