A compass lets us know where we are in relation to particular points or benchmarks. A compass is designed based on directions: north, south, east, and west. When giving directions, you may send someone to the right or to the left, but you may also tell them to go north or west. Directions only help if they start where you are, not in some other location. Telling someone how to get to Browns stadium from the Cavs arena only works if someone knows how to get to the arena or is currently located there.
Sometimes, we expect people to be further along in their journey than they may be. It’s not helpful to try to move them past necessary steps on the path that God has for them. The beautiful thing about a compass is that if you don’t have one, the location of the sun in the sky can alert you to your direction.
The Creator of the universe designed it in such a way that we would have a sense of direction. No one is left out of God’s care and provision. When we keep the Holy One in view, we may occasionally get lost but we never truly lose our way.
Following God,
Be well,
